Hello again.

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

It’s been quite a while since Polished Scrawl has been online in any real, tangible form—since those dark days when the world was but swirling chaos. But consider it now, once again, very real and very tangible…although, there are some supplemental pieces (photos and the like) still missing from the archives. Researchers are working on tracking these down, but some things, sadly, may have been lost forever to the forces of Inadequate Backup. This is not the time to dwell on the past, however. From here on out, it’s full steam ahead.

Those of you who may have visited here in the past will notice that the site has morphed somewhat from its previous incarnation as my design and illustration portfolio. I’ll still be adding that kind of thing here, to be sure, but as part of a wider focus on what I’m up to in my life, what I’m creating, what I’m talking about, what I’m watching, what I’m reading, and what I want to share with all of you. I hope you enjoy!

Photo-stravaganza!

James & Melissa in IC 004Cast your eyes port-side and you’ll see a new section in the sidebar called “Photos.” The blog’s recent migration to WordPress (did I mention I switched to WordPress?…yeah, Blogger kinda’ sucks…) allows for all sorts of nifty plugins and other features, and gives me much more control over my content. I’ve added a plugin that allows me to pull pictures in from my Flickr account. It’s quite amazing, actually.

This picture is part of the initial picture upload explosion, which consists of photos taken the weekend before last, when Melissa and I went to Iowa City for the weekend. Much fun was had by all! Click the pic, or any of the little pics over in the sidebar, and you’ll get taken to the new photo album!

All my blog are belong to me

And, lo, as if by magic, the archives grow fat and bountiful. More to the point: I have copied all of my previous blog entries from days of yore, and consolidated them into one cohesive tome. A lot of what you may find squirreled away in there contains references to people, places, and things… nouns, if you will… that no longer pertain to modern day, but are none-the-less significant in their own right. Tread with caution.

As an added bonus, I will be, at some point, adding entries from the “Storytime” section of the old, old Polished Scrawl site. “Storytime” was a sort of proto-Blog, before the term “blog” was coined on the Intertubes. One “Storytime” entry from January 2003 has already been added, with more to follow once I can retrieve them from their hidey-hole, and translate the ancient Númenórean script in which they are written.

Welcome! I’ve ordered a deli tray!

My special blend of assorted ramblings and run-on sentences has been germinating in various places around the Internets for a while, but I have now decided to bring it all into the fold, and deem it “official.”

So, welcome to the Polished Scrawl Productions Blog! Don’t let the title fool you: this will be more than just a blog about the inner workings of a freelance design studio… as truly exciting as that may sound. This will also be an all-purpose forum for me to spout random nonsense, unchecked by nothing but my own sense of amusement. Why? Because it’s fun. For me.

Hopefully you will find it sufficiently amusing as well. If nothing else, it may provide you, the reader, with a trove of future blackmail content. So there’s that to look forward to. For you.

I just blogged…

…in my pants!

Aaand, yes, I decree it: I will begin my first ever “blog” post with a crass, obvious joke about incontinence.

Don’t worry, folks… there’s plenty more gems just like that one in the reserve stock. Pickled, and sealed in mason jars in the root cellar for freshness. They make a great gift idea!

Hooray for me!

As it stands, though, I don’t have much at the moment to write about. Actually, I do, but I’ve been setting up this fershlugginer MySpace for hours now, and I’m growing weary…

So for now, please, feel free to begin a neverending email-forward to your friends, telling them of my “in my pants” joke. Do it on a Monday, so that everyone’s work week may be brightened, and imbued with a fulfilling sense of hope and well-being. And maybe, just maybe, you can make the world a little better.

Come on… do it for the children.
