Christmas/New Years 2005-06 Trip: Day Two through Eight

Okay, so I haven’t exactly been gung-ho about this travelBlogue (consider that term officially coined!), but I’m playing catchup… cat… k… catsup… ketchup… catch-up… whatever…

On my way to Mom’s on the second day… bored…

…before I hit The FOG! (dun! dun! DUNNNN!)

For a good portion of the drive, I hit a mess of pea-soup fog that developed somewhere around Memphis and never left. The kind of fog featured in horror movies that long-dead prom girls and crazy fishermen appear out of. At the point where I had to get off the interstate and get onto the county road to Mom’s house, which is only 30 miles or so left to go, and had to stop for lack of… the entire sense of Vision. Unfortunately, my other four senses were not suddenly heightened, and I therefore could not drive my way through the fog by smell. So, not 30 minutes away from Mom’s, I had to get another hotel room. I watched “Anchorman” and ate gas station sandwiches.

…he’s trapped in a glass case of emotion.

The next day (Christmas Day) I made it to Mom’s, and we opened presents… yay for presents! :) Plus my Mom’s new doggie flopped around on big puppy feet (…take that, Robert Frost!) You see? You see how I tie it back to the Fog?! HA!

Uncle Larry, Aunt Joannie, and Mom…. with presents!!! Liebchen (sp?) the dog is below.

Christmas/New Years 2005-06 Trip: Day One

So, while driving today, I decided to try and put up a series of posts about my trip. A “travelogue” of sorts. Today was the first day of the trip. I left Dallas at about 12:30 and headed northeast toward Illinois. The entire drive was basically slight variations on one theme…

Stare at this picture for four and a half hours, and it’s like you’re actually there!!

At around 5:00, I arrived in Little Rock, AK and decided to call it a day, and finish the drive to Mom’s tomorrow…

So… check back in later for the next thrilling installment! The level of quality has been set pretty high, I know, but I will try and live up to the excitement provided in this first post. It may be a few days until I can post again, since Mom’s internet is somewhat… dial-up… but who knows!

System reboot…

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…. grrrravy…

I am very much looking forward to my upcoming 2-week Christmas/New Year’s Vacation on Friday… “vaycay,” as the kids say. Kids… somewhere… who don’t wear socks…

You see what has become of my mind?! DO you?! SEE?!?!

…sigh… yes… the vaycay… ah YES!

It will be good to get away and clear my head and see my family and hang out with my drama-free… DRAMA-FREE, mind you!… friends up in The I.C. (Iowa City). I’m just looking forward to being able to set aside all the malarky and flummery I’ve been grinding through lately… almost like constantly trudging through a sandstorm, squinty-eyed, wearing horse blinders… accompanied by the ever-present sound of microphone feedback. The carbonide-drill bit that is my mind and soul has been worn to a dull, useless nub that now serves only to create a faint burning smell and a wispy trail of acrid smoke. So, for Christmas, I am gifting myself a new drill. A cordless one… With a comfort grip… And a keyless chuck.

And then I’ll build a glorious treehouse.

“You know who you look like?”

It’s probably happened to all of us at one time or another: somebody you are talking to, during a lull in the conversation, looks intently at you for a brief moment and says “You know… you remind me of (insert celebrity name here)”

In the interest of Infotainment, here are the people I have been compared to most often…

1. “The guy from American Pie” (a.k.a. Eddie Kaye Thomas)

2. Giovanni Ribisi. This was brought to my attention in college, when my friends taped this picture to my dorm room door…

3. Zack Braff. Only a couple times, the first being one Halloween when I wore doctors scrubs…

and finally…

#4…

…the one that represents such a proud moment for me…

Mr. Bean
